THE ANNUAL BBQ

The annual BBQ is a once in a year event that holds every July. It is a meeting point for all our community initiatives brought together. The food and Shade project, the Aydee, The senior companion and the Young People League.

The annual BBQ focuses mainly on four areas:

  1. The creation of an awareness of the danger and the effect of drug and alcohol addiction to the users, their families and the community. These consequences that have been hidden are exposed there by discouraging potential users. We do this by taking testimonies of former drug and alcohol users, an address by the Metropolitan Police and drug and alcohol rehabilitation organisation in attendance. We also use the opportunity to connect drug and alcohol users to rehabilitation organisations. This has proved very effective over the past five years.
  2. The event serves as an avenue of sharing a meal with the public and enjoying the company of others during the summer.
  3. It is also a means of sharing the community spirit whereby the church meets with the public not hiding your faith or race.
  4. On that day there is always something for everyone as the elderly are entertained, taking them from their lonely lives, people with mental health issues are equally accepted amongst us and a designated section for the children where they play with the bouncy castle. We always look forward to this event every year and Lambeth Council has always collaborated with us by waiving some fees for us to have a successful event.
